Did Kamloops just throw away a perfectly good playground?

Posted by Joshua Claycamp on

Did Kamloops just throw away a perfectly good playground? You may have noticed that Prince Charles Park got a face lift this past June. The wading pool was resurfaced, and brand new playground equipment was installed. So what happened to the old playground? Did it get thrown out?

Actually, no.

The Kamloops Firefighters and several community volunteers lovingly and painstakingly disassembled the playground at Prince Charles Park peice by peice! Incredibly, the Kamloops Firefighters are preparing to sand, paint, and restore the old playground in order to ship and reinstall this playscape in Jiquilillo, Nicaragua, at a children's orphanage. See more detail here.

This city is a fine place, full of some very fine people! Now, to be sure, Kamloops is no different than any other city in the sense that it is still broken, still mired in sin, still trapped in spiritual bondage. Kamloops still experiences its fair share of crime, homelessness, tragedy, and despair. But when you hear about that kind of heart where so many work so hard and carefully to give away a playground to another city in another country in another hemisphere, well, it just gives the Christian tremendous joy to be a part of a community that is mindful of the less fortunate and downtroden.

“But seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you into exile, and pray to the Lord on its behalf, for in its welfare you will find your welfare.” (Jeremiah 29:7, ESV)

It is a privilege and honor to labour to bring the Good News to Kamloops, to share the amazing truth with this city that we can be reconciled with God and our sins can be forgiven. I really enjoy Kamloops. But more and more I look forward to the day when Jesus will take His rightful place as the Sovereign over this Province, because I know that, as much as I enjoy Kamloops now, I will have so much more joy in this city on that day.

Won't you join us in sharing the Good News with this amazing city?  Won't you join us in seeking its welfare? I pray that you do.
