First Baptist Church was born five years after Kamloops was officially recognized as a city (population less than 1000 in 1893). In October, 1898 the first congregation of Baptists met for worship and was organized with fourteen charter members.
The church has had many pastors and has been located in several different buildings over the years. Then in 1959 the present property was purchased and construction began with 45 members. The church grew and by the mid-1970's was prepared to begin two(2) daughter churches (Westsyde & Dallas/Barnhartvale) which continue to serve in Kamloops. A third one was initiated in Logan Lake in 1978 which was recognized in 1986. First Baptist Church continues to operate on its centrally-located downtown site, attracting worshippers from all parts of the city. With a membership base of more than 80 people and Sunday a.m. attendance over 100, FBC is poised for new challenges in the next 100 years of ministry (as the Lord so leads us)!! |
