Is Jesus just a backdrop to your life? There are many today who view Jesus as a backdrop, which is to say that He is more of a historical footnote, to the immediacy of present events. He's there to rescue us when we die, but it is assumed that He can do next to nothing in this present moment. The opinion of many is that the teetering economy, inflation, the pandemic, or the war in Ukraine all deserve to occupy the center of our focus. But Jesus is still the King, always, including in this present moment. Centuries ago, the Pharisees assumed temple involvement was adequate for securing God's favor, but other matters became the focus of their daily lives. Into the midst of this misplaced self-importance, Jesus enters. He comes as a King, triumphantly!
