Every year on October 31, kids dress up and go trick or treating as a celebration of Halloween. My memory from my child hood is that this holiday was a completely harmless social event where neighbors said hello, gave each others' kids candy, and even took pictures together in silly costumes that stayed on the fridge for the next six months. However, more and more this holiday is becoming a dark, even Satanic ritual. Its celebration is something that every resident of Kamloops should consider carefully.

There was a headline recently that reported upon a man who became a Satan worshipper killing his mother. Several different reports indicate that he was first drawn into the occult through different experiences he had over the course of several years on Halloween.

"Satan Worshiper Gets Life in Prison for Killing, Skinning Mom."

Do we care to be honest with each other that real evil walks among us? This is the most horrific report that I've read in a long time. When will we be shocked out of our political correctness and declare the truth that Jesus is the only way!? When will we say, "No! Islam is a lie!" When will we say, "No! Hinduism is a lie!" When will we say, "Jesus alone is true!"

Halloween approaches and for many it's a time to be silly and wear goofy costumes. But there is a dark side to this holiday, and that darkness leads to Satan. This begs the question: what is the best way for Christians in Kamloops to stand up for truth and goodness on this holiday? Do we dress up like Bible characters and go door to door handing out candy rather than threatening our neighbors to give us some of theirs? Do we stay home and hand out Gospel tracts and Bibles to would-be trick or treaters? Do we not participate and do something else entirely on this night?

It's something to consider. One man found Satan on Halloween and ended up skinning and dismembering his mother. An interesting note in the coroner's report mentioned that the mother's organs were never recovered. Where do you suppose they went? If you read your Satanic Bible carefully, you know that he ate them. He probably ate the organs of his mother raw. Now, what if this were to happen in Kamloops? This gruesome tale from L.A. should challenge us to consider what part we aim to play in the celebration of Halloween. Will we point people to the truth, or will we continue to decieve ourselves into embracing the notion that such lies are perfectly harmless?
